Baleba's Man Utd shirt number confirmed after £70m move

Carlos Baleba will wear the No20 shirt at Manchester United after completing his £70million transfer from Brighton. The Cameroonian midfielder has signed a five-year deal with an option for a further season.

United had pursued Baleba for some time, having failed to bring him to Old Trafford last summer. The agreed deal comprises a £65m up-front fee and £5m in add-ons.

Midfield overhaul

Baleba's signing completes United's summer midfield overhaul, which has already seen Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans join the club for £50m and £35m, respectively.

The new-look midfield lost 2-0 at Hull in its first Premier League outing of the season. United will hope to impress with the addition of Baleba as Ipswich visit Manchester this weekend.

Following legends

Baleba inherits the No20 shirt from Diogo Dalot, who vacated it after the 2024/25 campaign to take the No2 shirt.

Robin van Persie wore the No20 throughout his stint with United, while Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wore it from 1996 to 2008. Gary Neville donned it for the double-winning 1995/96 campaign, with Dion Dublin and Sergio Romero also having worn the shirt.
