Atletico Madrid have set their sights on Manchester City midfielder Tijjani Reijnders as they continue to await a decision from his teammate Bernardo Silva. The Spanish giants are in the midst of a squad overhaul to maintain competitiveness under Diego Simeone.
Reijnders' Situation at City
The Netherlands international joined City just a year ago from AC Milan in a £46.5 million transfer. He featured in 47 matches across all competitions, scoring seven goals and securing two trophies in his debut season. However, his starting role was not assured in the latter part of the campaign, prompting Atletico to explore the possibility of a summer move.
Bernardo Silva's Future
Atletico have also tabled an offer for former City favourite Bernardo Silva, who is currently a free agent. Reports suggest Silva would prefer to join La Liga rivals Barcelona, though relations between the two Spanish clubs are tense. Barcelona recently made an opening bid of around £85 million for Atletico striker Julian Alvarez, but Atletico are holding out for over £110 million after allowing Antoine Griezmann to depart for MLS.
Other Transfer Activity
Atletico remain in talks with Wolves over midfielder Joao Gomes, having agreed a £39 million fee earlier this month. Reijnders is considered more attack-minded, but Atletico acknowledge the difficulty of securing his signature.
Meanwhile, City's new coach Enzo Maresca is assessing his squad while negotiations continue to bring in new players, including Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest. City are also targeting a winger, with Tottenham interested in Savinho, and are exploring left-back options such as Chelsea's Marc Cucurella. Centre-back Josko Gvardiol is believed to be on Barcelona's wishlist, but he is considered vital to City's defence.
