Mikel Arteta may already be regretting his decision to send Ethan Nwaneri on loan to Marseille, after Roberto De Zerbi was sacked by the French club. The Arsenal youngster joined Marseille in the January transfer window to gain more first-team experience, with Arteta specifically choosing the Ligue 1 side because of De Zerbi's reputation for developing young talent.
Arteta had said: 'Having all the options, understand the experience that we had in Marseille as well with [Saliba], the fact that Roberto is there, he's an incredible developer of young talent and he's a really courageous manager in the way he plays.' Nwaneri himself had expressed excitement about playing under De Zerbi, calling him 'one of the best managers in the world.'
However, De Zerbi was dismissed after Marseille's 5-0 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain at the weekend. This leaves Nwaneri's loan spell in doubt, as a new manager may not employ the same system or give the youngster the same opportunities. Marseille's next match is against Strasbourg in Ligue 1, and Nwaneri will be hoping to make an impact regardless of who is in charge.
