Mikel Arteta could be sacked if Arsenal finish the season without a trophy, according to former Liverpool and Manchester City midfielder Didi Hamann. The Gunners are still competing for the Premier League and Champions League, but have recently lost ground to Manchester City in the title race.
Arsenal led the Premier League for most of the campaign, but defeat to City last month shifted the odds in favour of Pep Guardiola's side. A win over Fulham would put Arsenal six points clear, though they would have played two more games than their rivals.
In the Champions League, Arsenal drew 1-1 with Atletico Madrid in the first leg of their semi-final. They are slight favourites to advance with home advantage in the second leg, but a defeat would put immense pressure on Arteta to win the league.
Hamann told NewBettingOffers: 'I don't think Mikel Arteta will walk. But if they come out of the season empty-handed after people were talking about the quadruple only six or seven weeks ago, it will be disastrous. Questions have to be asked because he's been there a number of years now.'
He added: 'If they were to get rid of him, it would be harsh because they've played a brilliant season. But at the end of the day, football is about winning. If they come up empty-handed, I think it's more likely they get a new manager than not.'
