Arsenal have set a new Champions League prize money record, earning £141.18 million despite losing the final to Paris Saint-Germain. The Gunners were beaten in Budapest, having already secured the Premier League title earlier this month.
Mikel Arteta's side had accumulated approximately £125.18 million heading into the final. The defeat at the Puskas Arena brought an additional £16 million, but Arsenal missed out on a further £9.06 million that would have come with lifting the trophy and participating in the UEFA Super Cup.
Earlier in the campaign, Arsenal banked £85.3 million from television money and the rankings pool. Their perfect league phase record — eight wins from eight — earned them £15.8 million, while finishing top of the table brought an additional £8.6 million. Direct passage to the last 16, which came with topping the standings, was worth £11.3 million.
In the knockout rounds, Arsenal eliminated Bayer Leverkusen in the last 16, earning £10.8 million. They then edged past Sporting CP in the quarter-finals, with progression to the semi-finals worth a further £10.8 million, before overcoming Atletico Madrid. Reaching their first Champions League final since 2006 contributed £15.97 million.
With the additional £16 million from the final, Arsenal's total exceeds the previous record of £124.62 million set by PSG last year. UEFA distributed a record £2.13 billion prize pot during this season's competition.
