Arsenal have made an opening bid of €75 million (£63.4m) for Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres, according to reports in Portugal. The Gunners have made signing a new forward a priority for the summer, with Gyokeres and RB Leipzig's Benjamin Sesko at the top of their shortlist.
The Sweden international has enjoyed a prolific season, scoring 52 goals in 49 appearances for Sporting. Reports claim Arsenal have already agreed personal terms with the 26-year-old, but Sporting are holding out for a better offer and are hoping other clubs will spark a bidding war.
Portuguese newspaper Correio da Manha reports that Sporting are willing to accept a fee between €75m and €85m (£63.5m and £72m), which would still represent a significant profit on the £20m they paid Coventry City in 2023. However, the Lisbon club are waiting to see if any rivals trigger Gyokeres' €100m (£84.7m) release clause.
Arsenal are reportedly concerned that Chelsea could make a move this summer and may even pay the release clause. New sporting director Andrea Berta is said to favour Gyokeres over Sesko, while Manchester United have also registered interest. However, Gyokeres has reportedly told United boss Ruben Amorim he would only consider joining if they qualify for the Champions League, meaning they must beat Tottenham in the Europa League final on May 21.
