Noni Madueke will be given as much time as possible to prove his fitness for Arsenal's Premier League meeting with Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday afternoon.
The Gunners face one of their toughest tests of the season so far, with question marks hanging over several attackers because of injury or poor form.
Team news and injury latest
Bukayo Saka remains unavailable as he awaits a further scan on a quad injury suffered against Bayern Munich, with reports suggesting he could be sidelined for up to eight weeks. Fellow winger Madueke missed the Carabao Cup defeat by Fleetwood in midweek because of an ankle issue.
That injury is not believed to be serious, but it remains uncertain whether he will return to face Liverpool. His availability is particularly significant given that Max Dowman is suspended after his late red card against Fleetwood. Arsenal appealed that decision but were unsuccessful, and the teenager remains banned for the next three domestic matches.
Returning players and selection concerns
Christos Tzolis is in contention to make the squad for the first time since before the last international break after recovering from a hamstring injury. He took full part in first-team training on Friday, as did Declan Rice and Riccardo Calafiori after their recent minor issues.
Kai Havertz and Viktor Gyokeres were both poor against Fleetwood, and neither has done enough to suggest they should start up front against Liverpool. Havertz had an awful night in the cup upset, but Arteta often turns to the German in the biggest matches.
