Arsenal have been advised to consider a move for Brighton winger Kaoru Mitoma after their pursuit of Vinicius Junior ended in failure. The Real Madrid star, whose contract was set to expire next summer, instead signed a new six-year deal with the Spanish giants last week, keeping him at the club until 2032.
Arteta's search for a left winger
With the Brazilian now off the table, Mikel Arteta's side remain in the market for a left winger in the final weeks of the transfer window. Former Chelsea striker Tony Cascarino has suggested that Mitoma could be the ideal fit for the Gunners.
Speaking to Talksport, Cascarino said: 'If he was a tad younger and hadn't had so many injuries, I'd really look at him. I thought Mitoma, when he's been Brighton's best player, he's scarily good.'
Mitoma's injury-hit season
The 29-year-old Japan international struggled last season, scoring just three league goals and suffering a season-ending hamstring injury that ruled him out of the World Cup. Despite this, Cascarino remains impressed by his abilities.
'He had a poor season last year, and a number of injuries. I think he scored three goals in the league for Brighton last year. But he's a dangerous winger – he wants to take people on all the time. And Arsenal have got cover there, so, yeah [I'd go for him],' he added.
Arsenal's existing options
Arsenal have already signed one left attacker this window, with Christos Tzolis arriving from Genk for around £34m. The Greek international has impressed in pre-season, contributing three goals in as many games.
Mitoma, who joined Brighton in 2021, has established himself as one of the Premier League's most dangerous wingers, attracting interest from top clubs including Bayern Munich following his exploits in the 2024/25 season.
