Leandro Trossard's ambition to play as an attacking midfielder for Arsenal may be thwarted as the club targets Ajax's Mohammed Kudus in a £40million deal. The Belgium international, who joined from Brighton in January for £21m, has expressed a preference for operating behind the striker.
Trossard, 28, has been deployed across various attacking roles under Mikel Arteta, but his hopes of becoming the creative midfielder were evident in previous statements. 'I like to be in the pocket behind the striker,' he said, though he acknowledged his versatility.
However, Arsenal's midfield is already crowded with Martin Odegaard, Kai Havertz, Emile Smith Rowe, and Fabio Vieira. Kudus, equally versatile, would add further competition, likely pushing Trossard to a wide role or reduced minutes.
Despite this, Trossard is expected to feature regularly in a busy season across multiple competitions. Arteta's squad rotation will be key, but the Belgian may need to adjust his positional expectations, especially if Kudus arrives.
