Arsenal have confirmed that goalkeeper Karl Hein will leave the club on a permanent basis, joining Werder Bremen for a fee reported to be around £2.6million. The Estonian international, 24, has spent the current season on loan at the Bundesliga side and will now make the move permanent after eight years at the Emirates Stadium.
Hein made his senior debut for Arsenal in a 3-1 League Cup defeat to Brighton in 2022, and was named on the bench for several Premier League and Champions League matches, including both legs of the quarter-final defeat to Bayern Munich in April 2024. He also had loan spells at Reading and Valladolid earlier in his career.
Arsenal released a short statement thanking Hein for his service, saying: 'We thank Karl for his contribution to the club during his time with us and wish him all the best for his next chapter with Werder Bremen.' The goalkeeper made his Bundesliga debut against Bayern Munich in September.
Meanwhile, Club Brugge forward Christos Tzolis has addressed speculation linking him with a move to Arsenal, Manchester United or Manchester City this summer. The Greek international, who previously played for Norwich City, has scored 21 goals in all competitions this season and is reportedly valued at a club-record £31million.
Tzolis told DAZN: 'I don’t know. It depends on Club Brugge. It’s not up to me to decide. We’ll see what the best option is for me. It’s not just about the name. We also have to ask ourselves what the best project is.' He added that he has a contract until 2029 and remains committed to his current club.
The transfer news comes as Arsenal prepare for their Champions League final against Paris Saint-Germain, with the World Cup set to begin on June 11. Mikel Arteta's side have already confirmed the permanent exit of Jakub Kiwior earlier in May.
