Arsenal could be bolstered by the return of four players for Sunday's Premier League clash at Liverpool, with Mikel Arteta confirming that Declan Rice, Riccardo Calafiori and Christos Tzolis all trained on Friday.
The Gunners travel to Anfield looking to recover from their Carabao Cup exit to fourth-tier Fleetwood in midweek, a penalty shootout defeat in which Rice, Noni Madueke and Calafiori were absent due to injury concerns.
Training update ahead of Anfield trip
Speaking at his pre-match press conference on Friday, Arteta indicated that all three players have a real chance of being involved, with Tzolis also in contention after returning to first-team training.
“They all trained today,” Arteta said on Rice, Tzolis and Calafiori. “If they train tomorrow, they will all be available.”
Rice felt discomfort in his hamstring against Everton last weekend, while Madueke has been managing a minor ankle issue. Calafiori came on for the closing stages of the 2-0 win over Everton but went straight down the tunnel at full-time.
Madueke and Tzolis decisions pending
On Madueke, the Arsenal manager said: “We don't know yet. We have a training session tomorrow, let’s see if he can complete the full session. After that, we will know if he's available.”
Asked if he was ruling out Madueke against Liverpool, Arteta replied: “Noni? No.”
Tzolis has not played since returning early from the last international break with a hamstring injury, having last featured in the 3-0 loss at Brighton last month. A late decision will be made on whether he is involved against Liverpool.
Arsenal have not won a Premier League match at Anfield since the 2012/13 season.
