Arsenal are growing in confidence over a potential deal for Real Madrid star Vinicius Junior, according to reports. A crucial meeting between Real Madrid and the player's representatives is scheduled for Wednesday, August 5, to discuss his contract renewal.
Contract Stalemate
Vinicius is seeking a salary close to €30 million per season, but Real Madrid are holding firm on their latest offer of €22 million annually. The Spanish club has no plans to increase that figure, which has reportedly boosted Arsenal's optimism about securing the 26-year-old's signature.
The expected transfer fee is around €150 million (£128 million). If completed, the deal would make Vinicius Arsenal's record signing, surpassing the £105 million paid to West Ham for Declan Rice in 2023. It would also make him the most expensive player in Premier League history, exceeding the £125 million Liverpool spent on Alexander Isak last summer.
Real Madrid's Summer Sales
Real Madrid have already done business with Premier League clubs this summer. They signed Marc Cucurella from Chelsea before the World Cup, while Ibrahima Konate and Bernardo Silva arrived on free transfers after leaving Liverpool and Manchester City. This week, the club confirmed the sale of Gonzalo Garcia and Cesar Palacios to Fulham, banking £42.5 million.
As Arsenal await Vinicius's decision, manager Mikel Arteta recently called for ambition in the transfer market following their Premier League title win. He said: "This has to be the start and this has to be the standard. Excellence has to be our standard and this has to drive to attack the future. The way we behave daily with more and more determination and ambition because we've shown that we've got it. Now we have to show that we belong to this level and we want to increase and take this football club to a different dimension."
