Arsenal could complete up to seven transfers before the transfer window closes on September 1. The Gunners, fresh from winning the league title and reaching the Champions League and Carabao Cup finals last season, started the 2026/27 campaign with a 3-0 Community Shield win over Manchester City and a 3-0 Premier League victory against newly-promoted Coventry City.
Sporting director Andrea Berta has already strengthened the squad with the arrivals of Piero Hincapie, Illan Meslier, Christos Tzolis, Bruno Guimaraes and Ezri Konsa for a combined £200million. More activity is still expected at the Emirates before the deadline, with several players deemed surplus to requirements.
Striker search continues
Mikel Arteta is keen to land one marquee striker before the window shuts. Berta came up short in pursuits of Morgan Rogers and Vinicius Junior earlier in the window, but Julian Alvarez has remained a constant presence among Arsenal's foremost transfer targets.
The former Manchester City striker has made no secret of his desire to depart Atletico Madrid this summer. While Alvarez's first choice has always been a switch to Barcelona, Atletico have consistently maintained they will not offload their star man to a fellow La Liga club. Arsenal are consequently poised to swoop should the Argentine abandon his Barca ambitions and agree to a return to English football.
Alvarez was included in Atletico's squad for Sunday's clash with Villarreal but was heavily booed, with reports claiming his dispute with the club continues. Spanish outlet AS claims Alvarez has been in dialogue with Arteta and Berta and has warmed to the prospect of joining Arsenal, though other sources suggest the player has no desire to return to the Premier League. Alvarez is reportedly valued at around £130m, a sum the north Londoners are willing to pay.
Departures on the cards
Arsenal's most notable departure could be Gabriel Martinelli. The Brazilian winger has lost his starting berth to new signing Tzolis and was omitted from Arteta's opening two matchday squads of the campaign. The Gunners have already turned down a bid from Galatasaray which failed to meet their asking price, but remain receptive to offers. Despite interest from Turkey and the Saudi Pro League, Martinelli is keen to remain at the Emirates this season.
Gabriel Jesus has also been made available for transfer but is reluctant to leave Arsenal. Everton and Ipswich Town have registered their interest, though Napoli are believed to be his most probable destination. Napoli have made enquiries but the stumbling block has been the Brazilian's wage requirements. Arsenal have placed a price tag of £20m on the striker.
Ethan Nwaneri is expected to depart temporarily, with both Arteta and the club aligned on the view that the midfielder requires consistent match time. AC Milan, Galatasaray and other Premier League sides are keen. Fabrizio Romano claims the 19-year-old is certain to depart before the window closes.
More exits and a signing
Reiss Nelson, 26, spent the previous two campaigns on loan at Fulham and Brentford and does not feature in the manager's thinking for this season. He was absent from Arsenal's Premier League photocall despite being spotted at their training ground last week. Speculation surrounding his £3m switch to West Ham has cooled, but there remains a chance the deal could be finalised after Nuno Espirito Santo urged the club to strengthen his attacking options.
Fabio Vieira's saga continues amid reported interest from Hamburger SV. The German club chose not to trigger the £19m purchase option included in last season's loan arrangement, but both Hamburg and Vieira are eager to reach a deal. Sky Sport Germany reported last Thursday that the deal remains 'on'. Vieira's contract runs until 2027.
The transfer Arsenal are most likely to complete in the coming days is the arrival of Igor Tyjon from Blackburn. The England Under-18s sensation has reportedly been scheduled for a medical. Rovers turned down a £1m approach in January, but he now appears destined to make the move following a £2m offer.
