Arsenal are on the verge of completing a deal for Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes, with reports indicating he has passed his medical and agreed a four-year contract. The move comes as Real Madrid's Vinicius Jr has committed his future to the Spanish club, ending Arsenal's pursuit.
Guimaraes Set to Join Arsenal's New Recruits
Guimaraes would become the latest addition to Mikel Arteta's squad, joining Christos Tzolis, Piero Hincapie, and Illan Meslier as new signings this summer. While other targets remain on the radar, the Gunners are expected to drop their interest in Vinicius Jr.
Vinicius Jr Signs New Real Madrid Deal
Real Madrid have agreed a six-year contract extension with Vinicius Jr, dashing any hopes Arsenal had of signing the Brazilian winger. Speaking on Instagram, Vinicius said: "Eight years at the Bernabeu are too short... Six more years, and then forever."
The club also issued a statement, saying: "Vinicius Jr has become one of the most important players in one of the most successful periods in our history."
Konsa Transfer Battle
Liverpool are reportedly ready to rival Arsenal for Aston Villa defender Ezri Konsa, as the Reds face defensive issues. Joe Gomez suffered a pre-season injury, Jeremy Jacquet is yet to feature, and Virgil van Dijk remains unavailable after the World Cup.
Arsenal's interest in Konsa stems from William Saliba's back problem at the World Cup, but Villa's £60m asking price is believed to exceed what the Gunners are willing to pay, according to Football London.
Andoni Iraola commented on Liverpool's defensive shortfall: "With the centre-back, with the right-back situation, in terms of defensive depth, we are, I think, very thin right now so I think it's a solution that we are trying to find, yes."

Guimaraes' arrival could create a dilemma for Declan Rice, who has been Arsenal's regular No. 8, making 158 appearances as the team's main creative midfielder. Since Guimaraes plays a similar attacking role, Rice might be shifted into a more defensive No. 6 position.
Despite the potential competition, Jay Bothroyd believes the pair are "up there" among the Premier League's best midfield combinations.
