Liverpool manager Arne Slot has delivered a sobering message to supporters, confirming that the club is unlikely to make any new signings before the January transfer window closes. This announcement comes despite the Reds experiencing significant injury setbacks in their defensive line and having drawn their last four Premier League matches.
No Expected Movement in the Market
Speaking ahead of Liverpool's upcoming fixture against Bournemouth, Slot stated plainly: "I expect there to be no movement." He did, however, leave a small window of possibility open, adding: "But if there's an opportunity in the market and we think we can strengthen the squad this club will always try to do so. But at this moment in time, no."
This stance follows a record-breaking summer spending spree of £449 million, which has seemingly led to a more cautious approach during the winter window. Liverpool have not made a single signing this month and have also refrained from offloading any senior players from their squad.
Defensive Concerns and Missed Targets

Slot believes this performance demonstrates the team's capabilities when players are fit, stating: "We have shown if we have players fit we are very competitive against any time. "Milos and a lot of signings we have made you can see the progression they are making in terms of adjustment to team and also power," Slot explained. "He is improving. If you look at the age of our signings they will be better second half of season, but also next season and season after that."
Another summer arrival, Jeremie Frimpong, has also impressed on the right side of defence. Slot highlighted the Dutch defender's intensity and impact, noting: "He has had a big impact in the games he's played. That's why we were disappointed he was unavailable so long. He showed the importance of being able to take players on in Marseille."
