Antony and Alex Scott were both sent off during a pre-season friendly between Bournemouth and Real Betis on Saturday. The incident occurred just before half-time, resulting in three red cards in total.
Brawl breaks out before half-time
The trouble started when Real Betis' Nelson Edossa reacted to a foul by Bournemouth defender Bafode Diakate. Edossa kicked the ball at Diakate from close range, prompting a response from other Bournemouth players. Antony then joined the melee and became involved in a shoving match with Scott, leading to both receiving straight red cards.
At the time, Bournemouth were leading 1-0, but with each team reduced to 10 men, the match ended in a 2-2 draw.
Manager also sent off
It emerged at the interval that Bournemouth's new manager, Marco Rose, had also been shown a red card, forcing him to watch the second half from the press box.
Transfer interest in Scott
Manchester United may have been monitoring the heated exchange closely, given their reported transfer interest in Scott. The midfielder has been identified as one of several potential options for United as they seek to bolster their midfield.
However, they face stiff competition from Chelsea, who have already had a bid rejected. The Blues are reported to have tabled an offer of £64 million for the England international, but Bournemouth remain firmly in the 'not for sale' camp.
Michael Carrick has already bolstered his midfield options this summer with the signings of Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans. United are eager to bring in a third midfield reinforcement before the transfer window closes. Alongside Scott, the club have been linked with potential moves for Aurelien Tchouameni, Manu Kone, and Carlos Baleba.
Antony's United career
Antony struggled to leave his mark during his three years at United. He arrived from Ajax in 2022, netting 12 goals in 96 appearances, before heading to Real Betis on loan in January 2025. He won over the hearts of supporters at the Spanish club and sealed a permanent departure from Old Trafford last summer.
