Andoni Iraola in Advanced Talks with Crystal Palace and Bayer Leverkusen

Andoni Iraola is at the centre of a managerial tug-of-war between Crystal Palace and Bayer Leverkusen, with both clubs in advanced discussions to secure his services. The 43-year-old Spaniard, who left Bournemouth after guiding them to a sixth-place Premier League finish and Europa League qualification, is expected to make a decision soon.

Crystal Palace have made a formal proposal for Iraola to replace Oliver Glasner, who stepped down after leading the Eagles to the Conference League title. The Premier League club are keen for Iraola to remain in England and have set a deadline for his answer by the end of this weekend.

However, Bayer Leverkusen have emerged as strong contenders. The Bundesliga side have endured a turbulent season, with Erik ten Hag lasting only three games as Xabi Alonso's successor before Kasper Hjulmand took over and guided them to sixth place. Hjulmand remains in charge for now, but reports indicate Iraola is in advanced talks to take over.

Both Palace and Leverkusen, like Bournemouth, will play in the Europa League next season, levelling the playing field. Iraola has previously expressed admiration for German football, citing Marco Rose's Borussia Mönchengladbach as one of his favourite teams. However, he has also said that staying in the Premier League is a priority.

Speaking after Bournemouth's final game, Iraola said: 'I don't know where I am going. I think it is a moment where we will have to take our time and make decisions.' He added that the decision would come soon as teams need to appoint managers.
