Ruben Amorim insists he still loves Manchester United after his AC Milan side beat the Red Devils 4-2 in a pre-season friendly in Wroclaw, Poland. Amorim's side twice came from behind to secure victory, with Samuel Chukwueze cancelling out Harry Maguire's opener before goals from Alphadjo Cisse, Goncalo Ramos and Ruben Loftus-Cheek - all within 14 second-half minutes - sealed the win after Patrick Dorgu's finish.
First reunion since sacking
This was Amorim's first meeting with United since being sacked by the Premier League club in January. The Portuguese head coach's time at Old Trafford proved disappointing, with a 31.9 per cent win rate in the league, winning just 15 of 47 top-flight games. He lasted only 14 months in charge before being dismissed.
Speaking after the match, Amorim told the Italian press: "The result doesn't matter. We have to win against Torino. It will be a completely different match. Today we had more space to play. As I said, next Sunday will be different, but obviously the team's feeling is completely different when you win by playing well."
Amorim's affection for United
Asked if the victory was extra sweet because it came against United, Amorim replied: "No, it's a normal game. Since I signed with Milan, I haven't felt anything about Manchester United. I'm just proud to have been at Manchester United and I still love Manchester United, but after signing with Milan, I don't feel anything negative about anything because I'm very happy."
He added: "I'm where I should be. So I just want to continue here. I wanted to win a game in pre-season to give our fans a good image."
Carrick remains positive
Despite conceding four goals, United boss Michael Carrick remains positive about his team's prospects this season as they return to the Champions League. He told MUTV: "I think as a whole pre-season's been very good. A lot of positives to take from it. A lot of the performances. The group has grown and got stronger."
He added: "Today, we're disappointed because we didn't play well today. There's reasons for that in some ways. We need to learn, we need to improve. Some of the boys playing their first minutes. There's different reasons. Anyway, no excuses, we just didn't play very well today."
Carrick concluded: "We've done a lot of work on the training pitch. I think the performances in the games have been pretty good so we're still in good spirits going into next week. We've got a good squad. We'll be ready for next week."
