Alonso Drops Hint Over Alexander-Arnold's Real Madrid Role

Real Madrid manager Xabi Alonso has suggested that Trent Alexander-Arnold may face a spell on the bench after the former Liverpool star was dropped for the club's recent La Liga clash against Real Oviedo.

Alexander-Arnold, who joined Real Madrid in the summer, started the match as a substitute, with Dani Carvajal taking his place. The England international was introduced only in the 87th minute, raising questions about his immediate future in the starting lineup.

When asked about his decision, Alonso emphasised that no player is guaranteed a starting spot. "It depends on what we need in terms of the game, the workload and the opposition," he said. "I haven't made a decision for the next month. I'm going to see how we recover and to make sure that people feel important and ready to start, come off the bench or be able to be in the next game."

Alonso also praised Carvajal's performance, hinting that the full-back could earn a recall to the Spain squad for next summer's World Cup. "He'd like to return, but it's the coach's decision. I'm very happy that he's regaining his confidence after such a long injury," Alonso added.

Real Madrid return to action this weekend against Mallorca, having won both of their opening fixtures this season. Alexander-Arnold will be hoping for more playing time as the season progresses.
