Xabi Alonso says Chelsea will not rush into a decision about Mykhailo Mudryk’s future at the club.
Mudryk is expected to leave Chelsea on loan before the end of the transfer window, with interest from several clubs in the Premier League and Europe.
Leeds talks and doping case resolved
The Blues are in talks with Leeds United over a deal, but rejected the Whites’ first offer as it was well below the terms they are prepared to accept.
Mudryk was cleared to return to competitive football after his doping case was resolved with the Football Association.
The Ukrainian international has not played a competitive game since November 2024, and Chelsea are keen to get him minutes out on loan this season.
No permanent offers considered
The Blues are not willing to entertain permanent offers for Mudryk, and Alonso says they will take their time to consider the best option for the 25-year-old’s development.
“We will see, we still have time to decide, and we don't have to rush on many decisions and at the right time we will take them, at the moment not yet,” Alonso said when asked if Mudryk would be involved in the squad for Chelsea’s Premier League opener away to Fulham on Monday.
Squad trimming and striker interest
Chelsea are looking to trim their squad heading into the final week of the transfer window and are open to selling strikers Liam Delap, Nicolas Jackson and Marc Guiu.
Delap is attracting interest from Nottingham Forest, Everton and Ipswich Town, but Chelsea’s £50m valuation is proving an obstacle in negotiations. Serie A side Como are also said to be open to entertaining a move for the England forward.
Jackson, meanwhile, has interest from Aston Villa as well as Atletico Madrid and Napoli. Chelsea value the Senegal international at £65m.
Guiu is the closest to leaving Chelsea, with permanent and loan interest from three clubs in Italy, Spain and Germany. As Standard Sport reported, the 20-year-old has strong interest from Napoli, who want to sign the La Masia graduate on a permanent deal.
Alonso was coy when asked if he envisaged Guiu, who is valued at £25m, playing for Chelsea this season.
“We will see, as I said before with our players. We could be talking a lot, so we need to assess with the days what will be the situation.”
