Dramatic scenes unfolded at Rodney Parade during Tuesday night's League Two encounter between Newport County and Salford City, as play was abruptly halted when an air ambulance landed directly on the pitch.
The emergency intervention occurred shortly before half-time after reports of a medical incident involving a spectator in the stands. Match officials immediately stopped the game, with players from both teams directed to the tunnel as medical personnel rushed to assist.
Emergency Response Takes Priority
Eyewitnesses described a tense atmosphere as paramedics worked swiftly to stabilise the individual before transferring them to the waiting helicopter. The air ambulance remained on the pitch for approximately 20 minutes before departing for hospital.
An EFL spokesperson confirmed: "The match was temporarily suspended due to a medical emergency in the crowd. Our thoughts are with the individual and their family at this time."
Game Resumes After Delay
Following a 45-minute interruption, play resumed with Newport County leading 1-0 from an early Omar Bogle penalty. The Exiles went on to secure a 2-0 victory with a second-half goal from Will Evans, though the result became secondary to concerns about the supporter's welfare.
