Two air ambulances landed on the pitch at Rodney Parade in Newport on Saturday afternoon after a supporter was taken ill during the League Two fixture between Newport County AFC and Notts County. The match was delayed by an hour as emergency services responded to the medical incident.
A Newport County spokesperson confirmed that the air ambulance landed on the pitch due to a supporter falling ill in the stands. The ground was temporarily evacuated but later reopened as fans returned to their seats.
Wales Air Ambulance confirmed that two crews attended the scene, with the first arriving at 2:22pm. The supporter, later identified as a Notts County fan, was taken to hospital. Notts County later stated on social media that the individual was in a 'serious but stable condition' and remained in hospital.
The match eventually kicked off at 4pm, an hour later than scheduled, and ended in a 1-1 draw. Both clubs sent their best wishes to the fan and their family, with Dragons RFC also expressing support.
Flight tracking data showed that one of the air ambulances landed at the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff. Supporters from both sides shared heartfelt messages on social media wishing the individual a speedy recovery.
