Three pitch invaders halted the World Cup round of 32 match between Senegal and Belgium on Wednesday evening in Seattle. The incident occurred after the first hydration break, when three men stormed the pitch at Seattle Stadium.
Security intervenes
Security staff chased the men as they ran across the playing surface. Two additional individuals were apprehended near the sidelines. The three pitch invaders were eventually tackled by security and led away, allowing the match to resume.
Match context
At the time of the interruption, Senegal was leading 1-0 thanks to a 25th-minute goal from close range by Habib Diarra. The winner of this match will face either the United States or Bosnia and Herzegovina in the round of 16 on July 7.
According to the match officials, the delay lasted only a few minutes and did not affect the final outcome of the game.
