Erling Haaland has been withdrawn from Norway's pre-match press conference duties ahead of their Nations League clash with Portugal on Sunday, following Manchester City being found guilty of alleged financial breaches.
The striker was originally scheduled to face the media this weekend, but Norway's media manager Morten Skjonsberg reportedly informed reporters that Haaland will no longer be speaking.
City found guilty on all but one charge
News emerged on Friday claiming that City had been found guilty on all but one of the 115 charges brought against them by the Premier League in 2023. The club now faces a wait to discover what punishment they could receive, with the right to appeal the outcome.
City face the prospect of a punishment ranging from a points deduction up to expulsion from the Premier League.
Haaland replaced by Benfica duo
As reported by TV2, Haaland has been replaced for Norway's pre-match press conference duties by Benfica duo Andreas Schjelderup and Fredrik Aursnes.
“We are making changes to tomorrow’s press conference,” the message is reported to have read. “(Stale) Solbakken, (Fredrik) Aursnes and (Andreas) Schjelderup will be on the ground floor.”
Haaland's previous comments on charges
Haaland is currently with the Norway squad for the extended international break, and was in action on Thursday night as he helped his country claim a 3-2 win over Denmark, scoring twice.
Haaland has previously spoken about the charges brought against City, saying in an interview with TIME Magazine in July last year: "I spoke with the bosses, and in the end, I believe them. It’s such a tricky situation for me to even sit there and speak about, because I wasn’t really involved in it. So I think the club knows what they’re doing. They will sort it out."
