Conor Benn has sparked major concern among boxing fans ahead of his WBC welterweight title showdown with Ryan Garcia, after the Brit showcased his current physique online.
Benn and Garcia are set to meet in Las Vegas next month, with Benn returning to 147lb for the first time in over four years. The 'Destroyer' previously fought long-time rival Chris Eubank Jr twice in 2025 at middleweight, before a catchweight bout of 150lb against Regis Prograis in April.
Fan reactions to Benn's lean look
After Benn posted a series of training camp pictures, one image showing the 29-year-old looking very lean drew particular attention. Fans flooded the comments section with concerns, with one writing: "Starting to look weight drained." Another commented: "If that left hook land its OVER... Weight drained already."
A third replied: "This guy is literally malnourished - Ryan ko in under 6." Another fan predicted: "He's getting knocked out, no chance he goes past 8," while one comment read: "Can we change the word trim to ill please!"
Benn's weight cut admission
A fifth offered a brutal opinion, writing: "This fight is going to end bad… he killing his self to make 147." Several agreed, with one user posting: "If thats a real unedited picture he's in big trouble," and another commenting: "He prob still needs to lose at least another 10lb. He might not look well on the scales."
Earlier this month, Benn revealed he has no intention of remaining at 147lb beyond this bout. "Yeah, it's hard. It's brutal," he told Ring Magazine. "This is my last fight at 147. When I win the world title, I'll move on. But for me, I haven't made 147 for four years. So, it's challenging. It's really hard. You think I went up to 183 [fight night weight] for the Eubank fights, you know, so it's hard, but we're getting it done."
Despite the concerns, Benn remains focused on Garcia and has vowed to stop his opponent. "I don't care what he's doing. Like it makes no difference. It doesn't concern me at all. All I know is I'm working extremely hard to come out victorious. No doubt I'll be looking for the stoppage myself. I think I'll stop him. Yeah, I do."
