Great Britain claimed their first gold medals at the Track World Championships in Chile on Friday, as Josh Tarling won the men's points race and Josh Charlton triumphed in the individual pursuit.
Tarling, 21, delivered a masterclass in the points race, taking maximum points in the third sprint before breaking away solo to gain a lap. He consistently collected points in subsequent sprints and finished second in the final dash, securing the title eight points ahead of American Peter Moore.
Charlton, who took silver in the individual pursuit last year, dominated the qualifying round, finishing 2.248 seconds faster than Denmark's Rasmus Pedersen. In the final, he established a two-second lead within the first kilometre and crossed the line more than three seconds ahead to claim his first world title. It was Britain's first gold in the men's individual pursuit since Bradley Wiggins in 2008.
Joe Truman added a bronze medal in the men's kilo event. British riders have now won seven medals after three days of competition in Santiago, including Katie Archibald's silver in the women's elimination race and a bronze in the women's team pursuit, alongside silver medals in both team sprints.
