Vigilante cyclist Michael Van Erp, known as Cycling Mikey, has filmed himself pushing his bicycle into a car during a dispute over access through roadworks in Hammersmith, west London. The five-minute expletive-laden clip shows Van Erp arguing with a driver attempting to pass a no-entry sign on Paddenswick Road.
Standing in front of the vehicle, Van Erp insisted the motorist must reverse, saying: 'What is that sign back there? You have to go back now... very naughty.' After the car initially reversed, the driver attempted to enter the road again, prompting Van Erp to push his bike into the vehicle, smashing it into pieces. He then blocked the road with his body to prevent another driver from passing.
Van Erp, 52, a carer and roller-skating instructor, regularly cycles around London with a GoPro to catch motorists using their phones or committing other offences. He claims to have reported more than 2,280 drivers since 2019, resulting in 2,649 penalty points, £165,000 in fines, and 35 driving bans. His victims include celebrities such as Frank Lampard, Chris Eubank, and Guy Ritchie.
However, Van Erp has himself been caught breaking road rules. Last year, he filmed himself cycling through a red light in Belgravia. In the latest incident, he told The Telegraph: 'I did not throw the bike at his car. I just wanted to block him, but his unexpectedly savage acceleration and my slightly late reaction meant we ended up on a collision course.'
The Metropolitan Police has not commented on the incident. Van Erp continues to post videos on his YouTube channel, which has nearly 120,000 subscribers.
