Wondrous Light to Shine at Nottingham: Jason Heavey's Tips

Jason Heavey, the Daily Star's top tipster, has provided his racing tips for Thursday's meetings, with a focus on Nottingham's six-race card. His nap selection is Wondrous Light in the 3.42 at Nottingham.

Nottingham Highlights

Wondrous Light (3.42, nap) can shine at Nottingham this afternoon and score her third win of the season in the Wildwest Beer Festival 4th July Handicap over a mile. The four-year-old is currently in fine form, winning on her seasonal debut at Beverley in April before a frustrating fourth at Southwell when failing to find a clear passage until it was too late. Jonathan Portman's grey filly gained ample compensation when cruising to a course-and-distance success 23 days ago. While she now faces a step up in class, the daughter of Earthlight has more to offer.

Later on the same card, Tim Easterby's veteran Albegone (4.52) has the chance to win for the first time in just over a year. He scored from 13lb higher than this in the five-furlong Events At Nottingham Racecourse Handicap. The eight-year-old has also won over track and trip back in October 2024. After a good second slot at Musselburgh last Sunday and with the addition of blinkers, a good run beckons.

Newbury Selections

At Newbury, Storm Point (2.55) looks great value to feature in the mile handicap on his turf debut. Ed Walker's three-year-old showed marked improvement following a gelding operation to win a Kempton handicap over seven furlongs in April and was badly hampered when sixth last time at Lingfield. In the six-furlong handicap, course and distance winner Justcallmepete (4.05) makes lots of appeal to follow up his win at Windsor 17 days ago. That was a step up in class and a 3lb penalty has been very kind to him.

Yarmouth Best Bet

Neyva's Angel (3.20) looks the best bet at Yarmouth in the five-furlong handicap. A winner at Southwell in April, she ran a career best when second here two weeks ago over a furlong more. Raised 4lb, she should take some stopping.

Catterick Tip

A strong pace will suit Ruth Carr's Habrdi (8.59, trb) at Catterick, who showed a return to form with two recent placed runs.
