Five of Australia’s top women cricketers have surpassed $1 million in annual earnings, driven by growing franchise opportunities and endorsements. The milestone comes as the team prepares for a World Cup semi-final against India, highlighting the sport's financial evolution.
Ellyse Perry leads the earners with long-term sponsorships and franchise deals, including around $300,000 from the Women’s Premier League (WPL) and $130,000 from the Hundred. Ash Gardner earned approximately $550,000 in the WPL, while Annabel Sutherland and Beth Mooney each accrued close to $350,000 from the tournament. Captain Alyssa Healy is also near the million-dollar mark.
Australian Cricketers’ Association chief Paul Marsh expects salaries to keep rising, noting that increased earnings help attract top athletes. However, he emphasised managing player workloads as the schedule grows. The upcoming WPL ‘mega auction’ in November could see more Australians join the top earners, with franchises each having about $2.6 million to spend.
Despite the financial boom, players like Alana King prioritise national duty. Her manager, Cameron Richardson, said the WPL is treated as a bonus, with King’s focus firmly on representing Australia. King, who took 7-18 against South Africa in the World Cup, will enter the auction as a free agent.
