In a statement, the family said Hatton was 'excited for the future' and had his bags packed for a trip to Dubai to promote a comeback fight scheduled for December. He also planned a celebration in Dubai centred around his daughters Millie and Fearne, who were to see him fight in person for the first time.
Hatton, who became world champion in 2005 and faced legends Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao, had dinner with his daughters on the Friday before his death. His family emphasised that he was not alone in his final days and was in regular contact with them.
The family expressed shock at the events and thanked the public for their support, but requested privacy to grieve. They also paid tribute to Paul Speak, who discovered Hatton, and asked for respect for Hatton's memory.
Former heavyweight champion Frank Bruno led tributes, describing Hatton as 'a great fighter, a friend and an amazing human being'. Bruno recalled their shared experiences and Hatton's work with his charity, highlighting their conversations about mental health.
