The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Nigeria has confirmed that the Lexus Jeep carrying Anthony Joshua was travelling "beyond the legally prescribed speed limit" when the collision occurred. In their preliminary report, they stated the vehicle lost control during an overtaking manoeuvre.

The fatal incident took place on Monday, 29 December 2025, along the busy Lagos–Ibadan Expressway near the Sinoma area close to Sagamu in Ogun State. The crash involved Joshua's private black Lexus Jeep and a stationary red commercial Sinotruck.

The FRSC reported that the collision happened at approximately 1200 hours local time. Their operatives were notified promptly and arrived at the scene within just three minutes, allowing for swift rescue operations to begin.
