The $15 Million Offer Fury Refused
The long-standing feud between Jake Paul and Tommy Fury has escalated dramatically after Fury rejected a $15million pay-day for a highly anticipated boxing rematch. This comes two years after Fury handed Paul his first professional defeat via a split decision in Saudi Arabia, a fight which saw Paul knock Fury down in the final round.
Excuses and Accusations Fly Online
Following the rejection, Paul took to social media to launch a scathing attack on his British rival. He dismissed Fury's primary excuse of being unable to travel to the United States, stating, "Well we were not trying to fight him in America. So, that was their excuse... We had other options planned."
Paul did not hold back in his online post, writing: "Respect due to all the fighters that said yes... Guess who didn’t say yes even for $15M. B*** made you and your father are, who controls everything you do. You are not a man. You are a boy. Daddy’s little boy."
Fury was quick to fire back, challenging the terms of the offer. He responded: "Offering me the fight in America… a place you know I can’t get to right now. Convenient. Offer me the same $15M anywhere else in the world and I’ll be there in eight weeks to shut you the f*** up and repeat what I did the first time."
Why Fury's Father is a Key Factor
The travel issue is deeply linked to Fury's father and trainer, John Fury. The 60-year-old is unable to enter the United States due to his criminal record, having served four years of an 11-year prison sentence for a violent assault. This has been a significant obstacle in arranging a stateside bout for his son.
Paul, however, appears to have moved on, securing a blockbuster alternative. He is now set to face British heavyweight star Anthony Joshua in a professional bout scheduled for Friday, December 19, in Miami. The fight will be streamed live on Netflix and contested over eight three-minute rounds, with the result counting on both fighters' professional records.
Despite the new high-profile matchup, the war of words with Tommy Fury seems far from over, leaving the door open for a potential explosive rematch in the future.
