YouTube sensation turned professional boxer Jake Paul was forced to drive himself to hospital after suffering a suspected broken jaw in a punishing defeat to former two-time heavyweight world champion Anthony Joshua.
A Brutal End in Miami
The highly anticipated professional showdown between the social media star and the British boxing icon took place in Miami on Friday night. While many predicted an early demolition, Paul managed to extend the contest into the sixth round before Joshua secured a decisive technical knockout.
Joshua, known as 'AJ', initially appeared frustrated as Paul utilised a larger ring to evade early attacks. The Brit, however, soon found his rhythm, dropping his opponent twice in the fifth round before forcing the referee to stop the fight in the sixth.
Paul's Post-Fight Revelation and Future Plans
Moments after the bout concluded, a bloodied Jake Paul addressed the crowd. "I had a blast, I'm blessed by God to put on a performance like this," he stated. "Anthony is a great fighter, I got my arse beat. But I'll come back and keep winning."
He then revealed the extent of the damage: "My jaw is broken by the way, it's definitely broke. Nice little a** whooping from one of the best to ever do it." Paul attributed his fatigue to handling Joshua's significant weight and suggested better cardio could have changed the outcome.
Looking ahead, the 28-year-old said he would heal from the injury, return to fighting opponents in his own weight class, and pursue a cruiserweight world title. He confirmed he would take a break from the ring to plan his next move.
Joshua Sets Sights on Fury
For Anthony Joshua, the victory served as a useful exercise, though the bout was met with boos from sections of the Miami crowd. Almost immediately after his win, Joshua issued a direct challenge to his long-time British rival, Tyson Fury.
"If Tyson Fury is as serious as he thinks he is, and he wants to put down his Twitter fingers and put on some gloves... Step in the ring with me next," Joshua declared, urging Fury to settle their feud with fists rather than social media taunts.
His promoter echoed this sentiment, labelling a potential Joshua-Fury clash as "the biggest fight in boxing" and signalling a intent to make it happen in 2026.
