YouTube sensation turned professional boxer Jake Paul has launched a scathing attack on fellow fighter Ryan Garcia, after Garcia publicly doubted his upcoming blockbuster bout with former heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua would ever happen.
The Heated Exchange
The war of words ignited when Garcia expressed serious scepticism about the scheduled eight-round fight, citing the significant size difference between the two men that became apparent during a recent face-off in Miami. "I seriously doubt this Jake vs Anthony fight takes place. It's too much of a disadvantage, just don't make sense. After the press conference that's apparent," Garcia stated.
Paul did not take the comments lightly, firing back with a brutal social media retort aimed at Garcia's own recent career setbacks. "What don't make sense is you fighting for a WBC belt [clash with Mario Barrios] after coming off an a** whooping by Rolly [Romero]. And five other things I could bring up. But hey, that's no knock on you, you have big... nah you ain't having big nothing," Paul responded.
Fight Details and Recent History
The highly anticipated showdown between Anthony Joshua and Jake Paul is scheduled for December 19 in Miami. The contest will consist of eight three-minute rounds, with both combatants wearing 10oz gloves, and will be streamed live globally on Netflix.
Paul last fought in June, securing a decision victory over Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. A planned bout with Gervonta Davis was subsequently cancelled after Davis faced serious legal allegations. For his part, Joshua has been out of action since his devastating knockout loss to Daniel Dubois in September 2024, making this his planned return to the ring.
Behind the Scenes and Broadcast Drama
The verbal sparring with Garcia is part of a long-running feud. Paul had previously called out Garcia after the Davis fight collapsed, hoping to settle their rivalry. However, Nakisa Bidarian, head of Paul's Most Valuable Promotions (MVP), revealed that streaming service DAZN blocked the potential fight.
Bidarian explained that while DAZN quickly approved Joshua's participation on Netflix, they refused to allow Garcia to switch broadcasters. He speculated on the reason, suggesting DAZN might believe Paul could beat Garcia, which would devalue their asset, while they assume Joshua will defeat Paul.
For UK fans, the main event ring walks are expected around 4am GMT on December 20, with the timing tailored for American audiences. The entire event will be available to stream live on Netflix, which UK viewers can access through various subscription plans.
