The fatal incident occurred on Monday near Lagos, Nigeria. The Lexus SUV carrying Joshua and his friends collided with a stationary truck on a major road.
Victims and Aftermath of the Accident
The crash claimed the lives of two of Joshua's long-term associates: Sina Ghami, who served as his strength and conditioning coach, and Latif ‘Latz’ Ayodele, a trainer. Both men were celebrated for their "energy and loyalty" in a tribute posted by Joshua's promoter, Eddie Hearn.
Anthony Joshua, the 36-year-old former world heavyweight champion from Watford, sustained injuries in the collision. He was treated in hospital and released on Wednesday after being deemed fit to continue his recovery at home, according to Lagos state commissioner for information Gbenga Omotoso.
Boxing World Mourns and Case Continues
Joshua was in Nigeria on holiday following his victory over Jake Paul in Miami on 19th December. The boxing community has rallied in support, with condolences offered from notable figures including Tyson Fury, Oleksandr Usyk, Tony Bellew, and Wladimir Klitschko.
