World heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua has been involved in a serious road traffic accident in Nigeria that resulted in two fatalities, with officials providing a major update on the cause of the collision.

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Nigeria has issued a preliminary statement confirming the details of the incident. According to their report, the Lexus Jeep carrying Anthony Joshua was travelling "beyond the legally prescribed speed limit" when the crash occurred. The vehicle is said to have lost control during an overtaking manoeuvre.
Timeline and Details of the Incident
The fatal accident took place on Monday, 29 December 2025, at approximately 1200 hours local time. The location was the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway near the Sinoma area, close to Sagamu in Ogun State.
The collision involved Joshua's private black Lexus Jeep, with registration number KRD 850 HN, and a stationary red commercial Sinotruck. FRSC operatives arrived at the scene within three minutes of being notified, enabling a swift rescue operation.
Casualties and Aftermath
A total of five adult males were involved in the crash. Tragically, two people lost their lives. One other person sustained injuries, while two individuals, including Anthony Joshua, escaped without physical harm.
Anthony Joshua was rescued alive from the wreckage and sustained only minor injuries. The injured victim was evacuated for medical attention. The remains of the deceased were taken to the Livewell Morgue in Ajaka, Sagamu.
