Boxing icon Amir Khan has issued a stark warning about a potential heavyweight showdown between Anthony Joshua and Jake Paul, branding the proposed match dangerous and suggesting it could end in a 'casualty'.
Khan's Stark Warning on Proposed Blockbuster
Reports emerged recently that Anthony Joshua is finalising a deal to face Jake Paul before the end of 2025. The blockbuster event was scheduled for December 19 and set to be broadcast live on Netflix, capturing global attention.
Paul, the 28-year-old YouTube star turned boxer, was forced to cancel his planned fight last Friday against Gervonta Davis after his opponent faced serious allegations. Paul's controversial boxing record includes a victory over a 58-year-old Mike Tyson and bouts against former MMA stars.
In contrast, Anthony Joshua has not fought since being knocked out by Daniel Dubois in September 2024, making this potential comeback a major talking point in the boxing world.
'Jake Could Literally Get Killed'
Speaking to Betway, former world champion Amir Khan did not mince his words when assessing the potential matchup. 'Honestly, I'm not going to lie, I think that's a fight where Jake could literally get killed,' Khan stated bluntly.
He emphasised the physical disparity between the two fighters, noting 'AJ looks a lot bigger, he's a lot heavier' and questioning what would happen if Joshua landed his powerful straight backhand on Paul.
Khan advised that Paul should 'stay in his own lane', acknowledging that the social media star has been 'gaining respect now' through his boxing efforts but warning that pursuing a fight with Joshua could make people 'think this guy's a bit of a joker'.
Alternative Opponents and The Publicity Stunt Question
When pressed about who Jake Paul should fight instead, Khan suggested a rematch with Tommy Fury would be 'an amazing fight'. He noted that since Tommy Fury beat Paul on points, 'Jake has come on a lot with the confidence' and that a rematch would be much more competitive.
Khan also mentioned Gilberto Ramirez and Julio Chavez Jr as potential opponents, though he expressed concerns about Paul fighting 'big guys'. Ultimately, he described the proposed Joshua fight as 'a great publicity stunt', aligning with what he sees as the Paul brothers' strategy of building their name through social media and sensational matches.
The boxing legend concluded with a sobering prediction: 'I don't think that fight should happen because I think there would be a casualty in that fight.' His comments add significant weight to the ongoing debate about crossover boxing matches and their potential consequences.
