Joao Fonseca has been forced to end his season early to prioritise his recovery from an injury. The young Brazilian was due to play in Basel, where he would have been the defending champion, and Paris over the coming weeks.
However, he has announced on social media that he won't be taking part in either tournament as he looks to return to peak condition ahead of next year.
Recovery over competition
Fonseca initially decided not to play the Asian swing with the aim of returning in Basel, only to realise that he is not quite ready for competitive action.
Taking to Instagram, Fonseca said: "Hi everyone. I wanted to give you an update on the rest of the season. As many of you know, I chose not to play the Asian swing to focus 100 per cent on my recovery.
"The goal was to return in time to defend my title in Basel and finish the year at the Paris Masters. However, my team and I realised that I am still not in ideal condition to compete at the level I would like, and that there is no need to rush my return.
Looking ahead to 2027
"Therefore, we decided to prioritize my recovery and focus on planning for 2027. Thank you for your constant love and support throughout the entire year. See you all on court soon."
Fonseca's decision means he will not defend his Basel title this year, and his season concludes earlier than planned as he sets his sights on a full return in 2027.
