The BBC was forced to issue an apology after viewers experienced a loss of picture during Scotland's World Cup opener against Haiti.
Technical Disruption During the Match
Midway through the first half, coverage of the match, held in Boston, was interrupted due to a world feed issue, with a test card bearing the message 'ESF UHD C' appearing on screens for around five seconds.
Although no key incidents were missed, the brief loss of action caused considerable anxiety among viewers across Scotland and beyond, as the disruption was attributed to a world feed problem — meaning it was not only UK audiences whose coverage was affected.
Commentator Liam McLeod said: "Apologies again if there's a loss of picture, it's a World Feed problem so everyone suffered it. But you're back with us now." A message displayed at the top of the screen also read: "Sorry for the loss of picture," reports the Mirror.
Scotland's Performance
It would have been a nerve-shredding moment for Tartan Army supporters watching outside the stadium in Massachusetts, having already endured an anxious opening spell against the FIFA-ranked 83rd side in the world.
The lively Ben Gannon-Doak saw his effort kept out by Johny Placide, before Scott McTominay rose to meet Andy Robertson's cross, only to head over. However, the CONCACAF side proved no easy opponents, with Sunderland's Wilson Isidor causing considerable problems for the Scotland defence. Meanwhile, Louicius Deedson posed a persistent threat for captain Andy Robertson to contend with down the left flank.
John McGinn's Goal
By the time the disruption occurred during the BBC's broadcast, Scotland had taken the lead through John McGinn. The 31-year-old was perfectly positioned to convert following a slick passing move from the Scots. Gannon-Doak and Che Adams linked up well, only for the latter to be denied by Placide. However, the rebound fell kindly to McGinn, who struck the ball into the ground and watched his effort deflect into the net.
Group C Implications
Victory for Scotland would send them to the top of Group C, after Brazil were held by Morocco in New York in the opening fixture. It proved to be a testing afternoon for Carlo Ancelotti's side, as their vulnerabilities were ruthlessly exposed by the hungry and dynamic AFCON champions.
The record World Cup winners fell behind after just 20 minutes when Brahim Diaz split the defence with a penetrating pass for PSV Eindhoven's Ismael Saibari. Their advantage was short-lived, however, as Vinicius Jr pulled Brazil level before the interval.
Brazil dominated possession throughout the second half but came perilously close to suffering a 2-1 defeat, with Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker keeping Morocco at bay with a crucial double save.
