Tony Mundine, the Australian boxing great and father of former world champion Anthony Mundine, has died at the age of 75.
A pioneering career
Mundine, a former middleweight and light-heavyweight contender, was one of Australia's most successful boxers of his era. He won the Australian middleweight title in 1969 and went on to challenge for world titles in two weight divisions.
His professional record included 47 wins from 54 fights, with 35 knockouts. He fought some of the biggest names of his time, including Carlos Monzon and Marvin Hagler.
Legacy and family
Mundine's son, Anthony, followed him into boxing and became a world champion in his own right. The family confirmed the death in a statement, saying he died peacefully surrounded by family.
Mundine was also a trailblazer for Indigenous Australians in sport, using his platform to speak on social issues. His contribution to Australian boxing was recognised with induction into the Australian National Boxing Hall of Fame.
