A 61-year-old athlete has died while taking part in the swimming stage of a triathlon in Swansea, organisers have confirmed.
Activity Wales Events, the organiser, announced the death with 'heavy hearts' and extended condolences to the athlete's family. The company praised the efforts of first responders, including volunteers, at the scene.
South Wales Police said its thoughts were with the man's family and friends. Emergency services, including the Welsh Ambulance Service and St John Ambulance, attempted to help the participant on Sunday morning.
The Welsh Ambulance Service received a call at around 09:15 BST regarding a medical emergency and dispatched a rapid response vehicle, an emergency ambulance, and the emergency medical retrieval and transfer service.
