A 12-year-old boy has drowned in the River Lea at Hackney Marshes in north-east London. Emergency services were called after the boy was seen entering the river at around 6pm on Saturday.

Police divers recovered the boy just after midnight on Sunday. He was pronounced dead at the scene, the Metropolitan Police said. His next of kin have been informed.
