Stirling Council is inviting residents, community groups and other key stakeholders to share their views on the spatial strategy and site options being considered for the next Local Development Plan (LDP). The consultation is part of the ongoing preparation of the plan, which will shape future development across the area.
Site options under review
The site options in this round come from two sources: sites submitted by landowners and developers during the Call for Sites, which ran from August to October 2025, and sites already identified in the current LDP that have not yet started and need to be reassessed for inclusion in the next plan.
Stirling Council Leader, Cllr Susan McGill, encouraged people to take part in the consultation.
She said: “The new Local Development Plan will guide how your community and the wider Stirling area looks in the future so it will impact everyone who lives, works and visits here.
“The site options part of this consultation is particularly crucial as it will enable residents, community groups and other stakeholders to have their say on how and where new housing, jobs and infrastructure developments happen in the coming years.
“Participating in the surveys will give a voice to the needs and aspirations of your local area and help shape a plan that delivers thriving communities and sustainable growth for all of Stirling – so please take part before the deadline of July 23.”
Drop-in events planned
Drop-in events have been arranged to support the consultation, including sessions in Strathblane, Kippen, Blairlogie, Gargunnock, Plean, Bridge of Allan, Doune and Deanston, Fallin, and Buchlyvie. Further events are planned in Balfron, Bannockburn, Dunblane, Killearn, Stirling, Thornhill, and Throsk, with dates and venues to be confirmed on the Engage Stirling website.
Following this stage, stage 1 of the site assessment process will be undertaken using an approved methodology to select suitable sites and discount those considered unsuitable. Sites with potential will progress to more detailed assessment at stages 2 and 3, including alignment with the emerging Proposed Plan and impacts on key infrastructure.
Preferred sites will be identified for inclusion in the Proposed Plan, which is expected to be prepared for public consultation in early 2027, subject to approval by the Council’s elected members. Stirling Council adopted its current LDP in October 2018 and intends to adopt the new one in December 2027.
The new LDP will set out where development should and should not take place across Stirling, identify important places and assets requiring protection, and include local planning policies to guide decisions on future planning applications. All Scottish local authorities must have a local development plan.
