King Charles Distances Himself From Prince Harry Security Claims
King Charles Distances From Harry Security Claims

King Charles has no wish to play any kind of role in the process regarding Prince Harry’s security provision in the UK, sources have claimed. The Duke of Sussex is expected to head back to the UK next month and will reportedly be bringing his family with him, after “assurances were given”.

Royal Security Arrangements

According to The Sun, the monarch offered to help cover the security arrangements for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex when they return to the UK. Harry has faced a protracted legal battle with the Home Office over the security arrangements for him and his family when in the UK after his level of protection changed when he stepped down as a working royal in 2020.

Security worries for his family have been cited by the duke as a reason he could not bring them to the UK, but it appears his concerns have been mitigated, with reports claiming the Sussexes were given assurances.

King's Role Clarified

But sources have stressed all matters of security are issues for the Home Office to decide and the King does not play a role in the process and has not made any private undertakings. Despite that, reports said the King has allegedly intervened and offered his own resources to ensure the safety of the family of four when they return to Britain next month.

In December, it was claimed that Harry's security access when he visits the UK was under review. But no change to the arrangements have been publicly announced.

Government Response

A government spokesperson said: “The UK government's protective security system is rigorous and proportionate. It is our long-standing policy not to provide detailed information on those arrangements, as doing so could compromise their integrity and affect individuals' security.”

It is understood the duke and his family have been offered accommodation on the royal estate for their upcoming visit, but have yet to respond. Buckingham Palace was suggested as a place they could use during previous potential trips but the gesture was not taken up.

The trip comes after Harry met Charles, who is still undergoing treatment for cancer, last September for the first time in 19 months.
