Newcastle United head coach Matthias Jaissle will conduct his first Premier League pre-match press conference this afternoon, with reporters heading to the club's media centre for the first time since May.
Back then, Eddie Howe conducted his final pre-match press conference of the 2025/26 season ahead of Newcastle's final day trip to Fulham, and little did we know it would be the final press conference he would conduct at Benton.
Jaissle has spoken to the media in La Manga, Valencia and St James' Park this summer, but it will be his first time speaking in front of the cameras at Benton as the serious business of the 2026/27 season is now just days away from getting under way.
Livramento Fitness
Newcastle were handed a huge boost when Livramento was pictured back in training on Wednesday, but it remains to be seen how ready he will be to feature against Liverpool. The 23-year-old has been out of action since picking up a calf injury on international duty with England in June and has not played a single minute of pre-season.
Similarly, Dan Burn and Lewis Miley have only played 45 minutes of action over the summer, and Jaissle will be asked how ready all three players would be to potentially play 90 minutes on Sunday.
Transfers – What's Next?
The question will be asked, but the likelihood is Jaissle will once again reiterate that this is a discussion to be held internally at the club and not in a press conference forum. Amar Dedic arrived earlier this week, Newcastle's sixth senior signing of the summer, and we will get Jaissle's thoughts on reuniting with his former RB Salzburg defender on Tyneside.
The Magpies are still in the market for a midfielder and will surely be looking for a number 10, too, given the lack of natural options to fit that role in Jaissle's 4-2-3-1 system. He will also be asked about potential outgoings. Is Nick Pope closer to finding a resolution on his future? Is Joe Willock any closer to joining Besiktas? Could any of the youngsters who impressed in pre-season head out on loan?
Jaissle's First Competitive Taste of St James' Park Action
Jaissle has had a taste of the atmosphere at St James' Park over the weekend, but nothing compares to the blood and thunder of the Premier League. With Liverpool the opponents on the opening weekend, Jaissle should get a proper introduction of just how much of a weapon St James' Park can be, and he will be asked about his excitement to manage there in front of a full stadium.
Alexander Isak Reception
It is obviously a transfer saga that predates Jaissle's time at Newcastle, but Sunday will be the first time Alexander Isak will return to St James' Park after effectively going on strike to force a move to Liverpool. He is sure to receive a hostile reception back on Tyneside, and Jaissle will be asked about how Newcastle can try and use the atmosphere in the stadium on Sunday to their advantage.
Kevin Keegan Tribute
Jaissle has already spoken about how much of a legend Kevin Keegan is at Newcastle, but also in Germany where he shone as a player for Hamburg. The club confirmed their tribute plans for their former player and manager ahead of the game on Sunday, and it is sure to be an emotional afternoon commemorating Keegan's life after he passed away last month. Jaissle will be asked to give his thoughts on the plans ahead of Sunday.
