Sir Keir Starmer has accepted an invitation to meet US President Donald Trump during his expected visit to Scotland later this month, according to reports. The details of the meeting, including the date, are still being finalised, and the White House has not commented.
The visit follows the trade deal signed by Trump and Starmer last month at the G7 summit in Canada, which reduced some US tariffs on British imports. In February, Starmer visited the White House and presented Trump with an invitation from King Charles for a future state visit, which Trump accepted.
Trump is expected to visit his golf courses at Turnberry in Ayrshire and Menie in Aberdeenshire, where he will officially open a new 18-hole course named after his mother, Mary Anne MacLeod Trump. He is not expected to visit London during the trip. Trump has made numerous visits to his Scottish properties since purchasing the Menie estate in 2012.
Scottish Police have confirmed they are preparing for a potential visit, which would be Trump's first to Britain since the US election. Assistant Chief Constable Emma Bond stated: “Planning is under way for a potential visit to Scotland later this month by the president of the United States. While official confirmation has not yet been made, it is important that we prepare in advance for what would be a significant policing operation.” The visit is not expected to include a meeting with King Charles.
