Trent Alexander-Arnold will be delighted that his former Liverpool teammate Ibrahima Konate is set to join him at Real Madrid this summer, according to the England full-back's previous comments. Konate, who will leave Liverpool on a free transfer after failing to agree a contract extension, is expected to sign for the Spanish giants.
The French centre-back moved to Anfield in 2021 and formed a close bond with Alexander-Arnold, who joined Real Madrid last summer. The pair have frequently praised each other, with Alexander-Arnold lauding Konate's performance in the 2022 Champions League final despite Liverpool's 1-0 defeat. 'Wow. Outstanding,' Alexander-Arnold said. 'The performance he put in yesterday, I'm lost for words. Words can't do it justice.'
Alexander-Arnold also highlighted Konate's potential after his arrival from RB Leipzig. 'He's a very athletic boy... He's still young, but he's got huge potential,' he said. Konate, meanwhile, described Alexander-Arnold as 'my brother' ahead of England's World Cup quarter-final against France in 2022.
Konate's departure is another blow for Liverpool, who lost Alexander-Arnold to Real Madrid for a modest £10m last summer. The 25-year-old won the Premier League, FA Cup and two League Cups during his five-year stint at Anfield.
