Tottenham Chairman Aims Dig at Daniel Levy, Promises Title Challenge Next Season
Tottenham Chairman Slams Levy, Vows Title Push

Tottenham Hotspur's non-executive chairman Peter Charrington has written an open letter to supporters, admitting the club's recent struggles have revealed 'uncomfortable truths' and vowing to invest heavily to build a squad capable of competing for the Premier League title.

Promise of a 'Full Reset'

Charrington insisted the club is not for sale and that the Lewis family are committed to a 'full reset' after Tottenham finished 17th for the second consecutive season, only securing Premier League survival on the final day. The club has appointed Roberto De Zerbi as head coach on a five-year contract, which includes a significant survival bonus, and the hierarchy are determined to avoid a repeat of this season's struggles.

Criticism of Previous Leadership

Charrington took a clear dig at former chairman Daniel Levy, stating that the qualities that make Spurs distinct had been 'allowed to fade.' He admitted the club did not have the 'right expertise in key roles' and that football success had not been driving decisions. 'Two 17th place finishes in a row is not acceptable,' he wrote.

Five Key Promises to Fans

Charrington outlined five key promises to supporters:

  • Build a squad led by Roberto De Zerbi with the right blend of experience, youth, and leadership to compete at the highest levels.
  • Invest across multiple transfer windows, with this summer as an important first step.
  • Modernise the football operation, focusing on raising standards in medical and performance areas.
  • Increase investment in the Academy to strengthen the pathway from youth to first team.
  • Continue investing in the women's team, led by Martin Ho.

Club Not for Sale

Addressing speculation about ownership, Charrington stated emphatically: 'Tottenham Hotspur is not for sale. The Lewis family are wholly committed to this club and to this rebuild.' He added that the family will provide stability and investment needed at every level, viewing it as a long-term responsibility rather than a short-term fix.

The letter concludes with a commitment to ensure Tottenham competes with the best teams in the league every season, with the rebuild aimed at that standard.
