A soldier from the King’s Troop, Royal Horse Artillery has died after falling from a horse following a performance at the Royal Windsor Horse Show. The incident occurred at approximately 7pm on Friday as the soldier was exiting the arena.
Despite receiving immediate medical treatment at the scene, the soldier sustained serious injuries and was pronounced dead. Thames Valley Police have described the death as unexplained but not suspicious.
Chief Superintendent Michael Loebenberg said: “We are appealing for anyone with information or material relating to the sad death of a military rider at Royal Windsor Horse Show yesterday to please get in touch. Our thoughts are with the soldier’s family and the wider community.”
The Royal Windsor Horse Show is continuing as planned, but with the omission of the King’s Troop, Royal Horse Artillery display. Jo Peck, the HPower event director, expressed sympathy for the family and confirmed the show would proceed.
A Buckingham Palace spokesperson said King Charles was “greatly shocked and saddened” by the news and will send personal condolences to the family. An army spokesperson confirmed the death and said the family has been notified.
