Nigel Farage has stopped accepting requests on the personalised video platform Cameo after a Guardian investigation revealed he had recorded clips supporting a convicted rioter, repeating extremist slogans, and endorsing a neo-Nazi event. His page on Cameo now shows him as 'unavailable', and a source said he had paused his use of the platform over security concerns.
The Reform UK leader has charged more than £370,000 for videos on the platform since joining in April 2021. The Guardian analysed over 4,300 clips, uncovering messages in which Farage repeated a motto associated with the UK far right, referenced antisemitic conspiracy theories, and made misogynistic remarks about left-wing politicians, including a comment about US congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez's breasts.
In one video, Farage sent a supportive message to a man he knew had received a 16-month sentence for involvement in a far-right riot, telling him 'I’m with you' and 'good triumphs over evil'. In another, he promoted an event by a Canadian neo-Nazi group, calling it 'the best thing that ever happened'. That video was removed from Cameo after the Guardian's story.
Farage made his first broadcast comments about the controversy on Thursday, falsely alleging the Guardian had 'illegally obtained' material. He declined to comment on whether he would continue making Cameo videos, saying 'I don’t approve of things being published in national newspapers that have been illegally obtained.' No data was obtained illegally in the investigation.
When asked in an ITN interview if he regretted any of his Cameo remarks, Farage dismissed the argument as 'ludicrous', comparing it to selling shoes to a convicted murderer. He told a Guardian reporter: 'You are a loser.' Farage has not confirmed whether his decision to stop accepting requests is permanent.
