Iran Accuses Saudi Coalition of Striking Embassy in Yemen

Iran has accused the Saudi-led coalition fighting Houthi rebels in Yemen of striking its embassy in the capital, Sanaa, seriously wounding a guard. The coalition has denied the claim, stating that no operations were conducted near the embassy.

Iran's foreign ministry spokesman Hossein Jaber Ansari called the incident a "deliberate action" in violation of international conventions protecting diplomatic missions. Deputy Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian said Iran would report the attack to the UN Security Council.

The Saudi-led coalition said its investigation confirmed the embassy building was safe and undamaged. Residents and witnesses in Sanaa also reported no damage to the main embassy building.

The incident comes amid heightened tensions between Saudi Arabia and Iran, who back opposing sides in Yemen's conflict. Saudi Arabia cut ties with Iran last week after its embassy in Tehran was attacked by protesters angry at the execution of a Shia cleric.

The row risks derailing peace efforts in Syria, Iraq, and Yemen. At least 2,795 civilians have been killed in Yemen since the Saudi-led coalition began its military campaign in March 2015.
